Hang Li, the Director of the AI Lab at ByteDance, a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and a Distinguished Member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). He graduated from Kyoto University and earned his Philosophic Doctor (Ph.D.) from the University of Tokyo. He worked at NEC Research Institute as researcher and at Microsoft Asia Research Institute as a senior researcher and research manager. He was a director and chief scientist of Noah's Ark Lab of Huawei Technologies prior to joining ByteDance. He is one of the world's top scientists in the fields of natural language processing, information retrieval, machine learning, and data mining, and has made major contributions to the research on sequencing learning, matching learning, and deep learning-based natural language processing. His book Statistical Learning Methods is extremely influential in the field of machine learning in China.
